Park Day - Rescheduled to Sat, April 12, 2008 |
Thanks to Our Sponsors! |
|
What a beautiful day to work! Volunteers from Royal Ranger Outpost 123 in Tunnel Hill came out to help with pulling weeds and getting the planters and beds ready for plants. In addition to the t-shirts supplied by the Civil War Preservation Trust, they also gave patches that the Rangers can add to their uniforms to indicate their involvement. Not only were the guys willing to help with this community project, they were earning points toward their Citizenship award.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this day possible,
including
Ace Hardware of Tunnel Hill, who
donated mulch, garden gloves, polyurethane and a brush to spruce up the
park bench at the Heritage Center

________________________________________________ We need rain, so we aren't complaining, but last Saturday it was just too wet to work outside at the Center. So, we will meet again on Saturday, April 12, at 9:00am, at the Heritage Center. Our tasks will be light, but needed: pulling weeds, cleaning out the flower beds to get ready for spring planting, and otherwise general sprucing up around the Center and Tunnel. The Civil War Preservation Trust and the History Channel are once again sponsoring the 11th Annual Park Day on Saturday, April 5, 2008. Volunteers throughout the country will work together to clean and repair the grounds at over 100 Civil War sites around the nation. Last year, approximately 4,000 volunteers played a vital role in sustaining these parks, providing more than 12, 000 hours of service. This year, members of the Tunnel Hill Historical Foundation and other volunteers will gather at the Tunnel Hill Heritage Center to do a little "spring cleaning of the flower beds and tunnel area. The event is scheduled for 9:00am - Noon. For details and contact info go to http://www.civilwar.org/parkday/parkday_pop.php?siteID=96
